Cletus Zoll

Cletus “Clete” A. Zoll, Jr., 84 of Riverton, passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

Clete was born on February 5, 1937 in Tiffin, OH, the son of Cletus A. Zoll, Sr. and Mary Kathryn (Allman) Zoll. He married Patricia Tannahill Collins on September 10, 2005 and she preceded him in death on January 12, 2022.

Also preceding him in death are his parents; one daughter, Kathy Lynn Zoll; one sister, Revella F. Swett and two brothers, Robert A. Zoll and William A. Zoll.

Clete Graduated from Calvert High School in Tiffin, OH in 1955 and Franklin University in Columbus, OH in 1975.

He was a United States Air Force Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Illinois Air National Guard in 1991 and from AT&T (Illinois Bell) in 1994.

Clete was a Life member of The American Legion Post 32 and AMVETS Post 61. He is a Past Commander of Springfield Post 32 and a Past President and Charter member of the Illinois WWII Veterans Memorial. He was also a member of the Board of Directors during the development and construciton phase of the memorial.

Survivors incluse; two sons, Kevin J. (Cathy) Zoll of Depauville, NY and Gregory A. Zoll of California; one daughter, Vanessa M. Zoll Hood of Troy, MO; one sister, Anna K. (Cliff) Meyers of Carey, OH; one step-son, DeWayne Collins; two step-daughters, Sandra (Ronald) Weeks and Carla Lawson; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; eight step-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial Gathering: 4-7 pm, Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Memorial Service: 12:30 pm, Friday, January 21, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Pastor Clint Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail; Land of Lincoln Honor Flight or a charity of the donor’s choice.

William “Bill” Boyd Mackiney

William “Bill” Boyd Mackiney of Springfield, died on Monday, January 4, 2021 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born November 22, 1930 in Tovey, IL, the son of Maurice and Jesse Deckens Mackiney. He was married to his wife, JoAnn McCarty, for 65 years.

He is survived by his children, Michael (Veronica) Mackiney of Newbern, TN, Kevin (Rhonda) Mackiney of Springfield and Lori (Brian) Smith of Petersburg; six grandchildren, Emily, Aubrey, Kirsten, Jack, Brock and Lauren; two great grandchildren, Hazel and Hadley, with another great-grandchild due in March; and many nieces and nephews.

Bill worked in the home building industry and retired from Pillsbury Mills in Springfield.
He proudly served in the United States Navy from January 1950 – December 1953. He was stationed on the USS Lake Champlain during his time of active duty.

Bill was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Springfield. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Bill was very involved with American Legion Post 32, AMVETS 61 and was humbled to participate in the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight in 2014.

Due to COVID restrictions, a private service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Springfield.

Maurice D. "Tip" Tippett, 76, of Springfield, passed peacefully on February 17, 2017 at Regency Nursing Home. He was born on January 23, 1941, the son of Ernest and Lillian Tippet. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wesley and Richard; and sisters, Harriett Wardell and Dorothy Matthews. Tip is survived by his wife, Peggy; sister, Dolores (Charles) Proctor; sisters-in-law, Bonnie and Sue Ann (Jerry) Donachy; brothers-in-law, Gary and Clifford McCormick; and several nieces and nephews. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962, and was a member of the Chatham American Legion #759, the Tyrian Masonic Lodge #333, the Springfield Consistory and Ansar – 32nd Degree Mason. Tip worked for Frye-Williamson Printing and Phillips Bros. Printing for 26 years. He became a realtor in 1987 and joined Charles E. Robbins Real Estate in 1989 until his death. Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 24, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield, with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Burial will be held at Horse Creek Cemetery following the ceremonies.

David Innis


David L. Innis, Sr., 86 of Thayer passed away Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016 at Mosaic of Springfield.
He was born Aug. 12, 1930 in Virden, the son of Robert and Pauline Hopper Innis.
David married Marion Green on June 29, 1951 in Thayer and she preceded him in death on Oct. 2, 2007.  Also preceded in death by one son, David L. Innis, Jr.; one grandson, Zachary T. Innis; sister, Pauline Wilson and brother, Robert Innis; son in law, John B. Milano, Jr.
He served as ammo corporal on a 155 howitzer gun crew with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Surviving are two sons, Brian and Frank (Vickie) Innis both of Thayer; three daughters, Mary Milano of Pawnee, Sherry (Rick) Lester of Indiana and Patricia (Mike, Sr.) Curry of Dawson; special daughter, Susan Griffin and special daughter “out” law, Peggy Johnson both Springfield; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters in law, Virginia Allison of Winchester, TN and Sarah Innis of Bethalto; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 11, 2016 from 9am till 10am at Bramley Funeral Home, Auburn.  Procession will follow to Camp Butler National Cemetery for military honors with Auburn VFW and American Legion and committal service with Rev. Terry Turner officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Auburn American Legion or VFW.

James Michael "Mick" LaRue Jr.

ROCHESTER, IL - James Michael "Mick" LaRue Jr., 77, of Rochester passed away Saturday, June 6, 2015, at St. John's Hospital ER.

He was born Jan. 3, 1938, in Springfield, Ill., the son of James Michael and Aurelia Zink LaRue Sr. He married Virginia LaRue; she preceded him in death in September of 2004.

Mick was a retired electrician and a member of the IBEW #173. He was also a member of the N.R.A. and Vintage Iron Riders.

He is survived by his son, Jim (Lisa) LaRue III; two daughters, Christine (Troy) Bowman and Lea Ann (Dave) Snow; four grandchildren; two sisters, Annette (Jack) Napier and Maria LaRue; three nieces; five nephews; and many beloved stepchildren, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2015, at Mottarville Cemetery south of Rochester. Deacon Tom Walker will be officiating.

Burdette Thompson passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2015.
Burdette was a resident of Spearfish, South Dakota at the time of his passing.
He was married to Evelyn.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Spearfish. Burial, with full military honors, will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 2, at Black Hills National Cemetery.

Earl Sweet

Earl W. “Pete” Sweet, 89, of Pawnee died peacefully, Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, at Sunrise Manor, Virden, after a brief illness.
Earl was born November 8, 1926 in Springfield, IL, the son of the late Iva Abney Sweet. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Twanette Turley Sweet, and a brother, Paul Sweet, of Lawrence, KS.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. After returning home Earl drove a truck for Smith (Smitty) Trucking picking up milk at local farms. He purchased a tavern in Pawnee, Pete’s Frontier Lounge, and sold it after 26 years. Being semi-retired he cleaned the Pawnee Post Office until full retirement. Earl was a former Fire Chief in Pawnee and was a member of the Pawnee American Legion and V.F.W.
Surviving are two children from a previous marriage, Fred (Bee) Sweet of Essex, IL and Debbie Sweet Dillon of Virden; a grandson, Jeff (Gini) Jenkins of Virden; granddaughters, Dana Sweet McGary of Thayer, IL and Keri (Ryan) Lechtenberg of Essex, IL; six great grandchildren; one great grandson; and his companion, Ginger List, of Pawnee, IL.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. till 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016 at Bramley Funeral Home in Auburn. Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Charles Kurfman officiating. Burial will be in Horse Creek Cemetery with the Auburn American Legion and V.F.W. conducting military honors.

He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Springfield. He was a member of Chatham American Legion Post 759, Springfield Squadron 32, Sons of the American Legion, Voiture 344 of 40&8,  Veterans of Foreign Wars in Chatham and National Letter Carrier Association. Survivors: mother, Mary of Curran;  three sisters, Pam (husband, Terry) Eberhardt and Melissa Bilyeu, both of Springfield, and Lisa Hill of Curran; four brothers, Terry (wife, Ruth Ann) Bilyeu of Springfield, Bruce (wife, Leta) Bilyeu of Loami, Kevin (wife, Mary) Bilyeu of Curran and Rodney (wife, Aida) Bilyeu of Bartlett; five nieces; eight nephews; and several aunts and uncles.
